The A340-300 aircrafts are the initial variants of the successful A340 familiy. It first flew in 1993, and soon entered in service. Given that these aircrafts are quads, they are free from any ETOPS restriction, and allowed airlines to open new longer routes. Cathay flies the enhanced A340-313E version, with a higher take-off weight and greater range.
